Students will engage in a recursive, inquiry-based writing and research process that is meaningful for a specific community.

The objective behind this outcome is focusing on my initial framework and ideas for the research paper and how it changed throughout the semester turning into my final paper that I turned in. In the beginning of this semester, I chose to use Code Switching as my framework and then analyze my group of friends to see the manner that they spoke in, how they said certain words, and how they would change the way they talk depending who they are talking to. Midway through the semester, I changed my framework and my focal point of the assignment.

For the first artifact, I used my initial research proposal rough draft. In this rough draft is where I pitched the idea of using Code Switching as my framework, as well as my main project. I used the research proposal to come up with an idea to base my semester long paper. While studying Code Switching, I came across many types of research, both new and old, each having their own definitions and their own reasons that back up their information. In this assignment I used a few different sources of information that allowed me to type up a good proposal that targeted everything that I wanted to talk about and cover throughout my paper. While typing up the proposal and looking for information, I soon came to realize how challenging a topic as this one would be. The research was not so much the hard part, but more so gathering the primary research because since Code Switching occurs everywhere and anywhere, it was hard to pinpoint one specific group of people to analyze. After a lot of thinking I had come up with the idea to analyze my different friend groups, since each group had a good variety of different forms of speaking.

For my second artifact I used a process work assignment that focused on my research questions. After careful consideration and talking with Professor Proulx, I came to the realization that I did not want to continue down the Code Switching path. I switched my framework to a Community of Practice and changing my focus point from analyzing the code switching in my friend group to analyzing how professional work environments pertaining to my major operate and what a day in their shoes looks like. With my research questions, I used "how" and "why" to further understand my research topic, and also to begin to head in the right direction to ensure that I got the most out of my research.

For my third artifact I chose to demonstrate my final research paper that I submitted. This research paper tied all my information that I gathered together. It was structured in an IMRaD format, which stood for Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion, as well as an annotated bibliography and an appendix. I used my secondary sources to talk more about my framework and how to best approach primary research. I had a total of six secondary research methods that each targeted a community of practice in a different aspect. After I gathered my secondary sources, I used the information that I learned to gather my primary research. I had an Interview with a Senior Feasibility Manager for Marriott, I observed a day in the life of an Amazon employee, and I gathered two Reddit threads each talking about what their positions are like. When looking for a Reddit thread, I used one thread that spoke really well about their Finance position and the other thread talked about how they do not like their jobs because they do not have enough time to do anything other than work.
